Hatteras vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking your Hatteras rental:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Rose Cottage: Semi-Oceanfront
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
