How to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Quaint Waterfront Cottage. Quick walk to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
