Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Quaint Waterfront Cottage. Quick walk to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
