How to find the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best rental in the Hatteras area:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Open, beautiful ocean-view home with pool, hot tub & lanai - snowbird-friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
