Our top Avon vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To book the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- First, have your family agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront home with private pool, hot tub, ocean view, & pool table has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
