Tips to get the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the right Hatteras rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Oceanfront, dog-friendly house with private hot tub, pool, AC, & lovely views has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
