This pet-friendly Hatteras Island rental really has it all. This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom rental is located on the canalfront in Avon in a peaceful, waterside community. A short drive into town will bring you to local dining options like Ketch 55 Seafood Grille and Oceanas Bistro. Grab a cup of coffee at Uglie Mugs and wander through Simply OBX for the ideal souvenir. When you want to savor the beach, the Avon Fishing pier is just 1.4 miles away from Dragon's Lair, accepting you to swim, fish, and soak up the sun during your stay. Dragon's Lair is also a pet-friendly Outer Banks rental so the whole family can really appreciate Hatteras Island and all Avon has to offer.

At Dragon's Lair, enjoy an open living area complete with plenty of seating and a flat-screen TV ideal for spending time together as a family. When it's time to prepare meals, the kitchen has everything you need including a gas range and plenty of counter space. With breakfast bar seating for 3 and dining room table seating for 4, everybody can enjoy meals together. You also have the option to soak in the summer salt air on the screened porch at the outdoor table for 3. Dragon's Lair lies on the canalfront in Avon so you'll be able to take in striking OBX sunsets on the furnished sundeck. Finding the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.

Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise.
