Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Canalfront Dog Friendly Home in Avon – w\/ Hot Tub, Boat Dock, Windsports Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, email the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
