SEAFOOD HUNTER, LOVER OR GATHERER:
Spring and Autumn offer the ultimate in surf, pier and charter boat fishing! The influence of the Gulf Stream brings warm waters, and many varieties of fish to our waters; such as flounder, drum, cobia, blue fish, sea trout, snappers, and mahi mahi. Local blue crabs can be caught in the sound. For those seafood lovers that prefer to leave it to the professionals, the island is scattered with seafood markets with locally sourced fish and crustaceans.

THE FOODIE:
The island is scattered with local southern treats. Seafood and BBQ the specialties available on all menus, if you prefer a casual al fresco evening or more of a tasting menu style. Many happy hour treats, ideal for after a day at the beach, and even a local raw bar called POP’s 4minutes away. Be on the lookout for the seafood happy hour specials. Many specialties dips, and condiments can be found for souvenirs. Local market, a five min. drive for last min. supplies, and a mega grocery store Food Lion a 15 min. drive to bordering neighborhood, Avon.

THE SIGHTSEER:
Locally found the Museum of the Sea, at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Unlock exhibits such as “Graveyard of The Atlantic” and “Dimond Shoals” which describe this tiny island, as a pivotal historical stronghold through the ages. If you’re on the lookout for pirate booty, and stories of famed pirate Blackbeard then hop aboard the ferry to Ocracoke Island for tours and reenactments of pirate duals or see the native wild ponies. To the north is Kitty Hawk, Lost Colony, Jockey Ridge, Wright Brothers Memorial, Pea Island National Refuge, and more than 60 miles of Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
Additionally many craft and art galleries dot the island, from painting, jewelry, to pottery; Cape Hatteras inspires art!

BEACHCOMBER:
Sand or surf, it’s the best of both worlds, whether you savor the day at the beach or sound-side soaking in the sun or opt for a shoreline beach hike as an avid seashell collector. The Island is full of sun, sand and surf, as well is always being re-shaped by mother nature, bringing the most colorful and intact seashells to the surface. For those that want a 4X4 off-road experience, weekly 4-wheel drive beach passes can be purchased with the park service.

Our top Frisco rental property booking tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. To find the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 3 bedroom Sound Front 2Q& ,2 T, with Amazing Views, Windsurfing , Dock, 2 Decks, has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
