Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to a budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your Hatteras rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Waterfront home with private hot tub, dock, sound views & decks - dog-friendly has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. message the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
