Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Hatteras vacation home:
- First, have your group choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront home w\/ private dock, hot tub, gas grill, central A\/C, multiple decks has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
