Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Finding the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer time is high season in Avon. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and choosing a perfect Hatteras rental:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Oceanfront, Guest House, Hot Tub & Spacious Decks has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
