Rental home tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best rental:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Bubba's Cottage, Charming Oceanfront A-frame 2-min walk over dunes to beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
