Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Tipsy Pelican- The Best Place To Relax! Books Saturday to Saturday. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
