Our top Rental home tips:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Rodanthe. Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Stunning sound-front home with private hot tub, outdoor pool, & beach access has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
