Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 5 min walk to the beach! BEST porch ever, dogs are welcome has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
