Strategies to get the best Hatteras rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- Summertime is high season in Hatteras. To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best rental:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Hidden Gem 4 Bedroom Home in Hatteras has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
