Our top Hatteras rental home booking tips:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, change your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Second-floor oceanfront condo with ocean view, pool, & central AC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
