Finding the best rental home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental in Rodanthe:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Private Studio Room with Pool—Steps to both Ocean and Sound! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
