Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental home:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pet-friendly canalfront home in Hatteras w\/ hot tub! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
