Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. SUMMER SAVINGS - Soundside Home w/ Cmty Pool + Tennis/Pickleball, Beach Nearby has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
