Sticking to your spending plan:

• In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
• June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
• Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
• Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
• Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
