Tricks and tips to get the very best Hatteras rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Reserve your Hatteras vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Start by having your family agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lovely Canalfront Condo in the Heart of Hatteras Village has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
