What To Bring:

Salt, pepper and spices are not kept in the camper and we ask that you do not leave them behind.

Coffee, sugar and creamer. We also ask you do not leave these items behind. Paper filters for the coffee maker are supplied.

Foil, saran wrap and zip-loc baggies are not included. There are plastic food storage containers supplied in the camper.

Shampoo, bath soap, etc. are not supplied. We do provide one bottle of hand soap, dish soap and a dish sponge are included.

Beach chairs, life jackets, umbrellas and screen tents are not included. The included camp chairs are intended to be used at the campsite only. If there is a beach chair left behind we will leave it in the outside storage and welcome you to use it at the beach but we do not provide beach chairs. There are companies that rent these items if you prefer. There are a couple bags in the outside storage to help you carry things to the beach but no beach cart is supplied.

BUG SPRAY AND SUN BLOCK! Anti-itch cream and aloe! Apple cider vinegar with mother works well for bug bites. These things can be found locally but might be expensive.

Medications and First Aid items! Pharmacies are not close by and hours are often limited for our remote area.

Coolers. There is a modest cooler in the outside storage just in case. The camper refrigerator is modest so you might consider keeping beverages in a cooler outside the camper. Ice is readily available in the villages.

Groceries. Supermarkets are not close by but we do have local markets and convenience stores. You will pass many in Nags Head or Manteo on your way in. We suggest stopping prior to your arrival. Again we are in a remote area with limited resources and hours of operation.

Alcohol. Wine and beer can be purchased at convenience and grocery stores. Liquor must be purchased at an ABC Store. They are located in Buxton, Nags Head or Manteo. All 30 mins. away and open Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Again we suggest stopping prior to arriving on the Island.

Pet vaccination records and rabies certificate. Roanoke Island Animal Clinic in Manteo accepts walk-ins.

Firewood can be found locally but grab some at the supermarket because it can be tricky to find! Sticks for roasting marshmallows are supplied in the camper and can be found in the outside storage.

Check with your campground about internet. There is a intelligent TV in the camper but consider bringing a DVD player and DVD’s and/or a game console if internet isn’t available.

Our top Rodanthe vacation rental home tips:

Finding your best deal:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Hatteras Island Pet Friendly RV- AquaHaul has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
