Being positioned where the warm waters of the Gulf Stream and cold waters of the Labrador currents meet makes Hatteras Island one of the most diverse fisheries on earth. For Reels offers sound side fishing from the backyard or from your boat or kayak docked just feet from the home. Common catch in Pamlico Sound include Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Crab, Shrimp, and Clams. A five min. walk to the neighborhood beach access offers world class surf fishing for Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Pompano, Flounder, and Spanish Mackerel to name just a few common species. Looking to fill the freezer? Book a private charter for a trip out to the Gulf Stream in pursuit of Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Sailfish, Swordfish, or Marlin. Over occupancy will cause the septic system to fail resulting in extremely expensive repairs or system replacement. The septic system is conveniently damaged by flushing any non biodegradable products or chemicals down the toilet or drains. Examples of items that cannot be flushed are paper towels, Kleenex, cotton swaps, dental floss, feminine hygiene products, and cooking grease or oil.

Tips to get the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hatteras. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. For Reels - Soundfront Home - Pet Friendly has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
