The town of Rodanthe is the ideal setting for a laid back, slower-paced vacation while still having amenities and dining options close by. If you need a break from the beach, take a trip back in time at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Museum. Reel in the catch of the day from the Hatteras Island Fishing Pier, or appreciate the other side of the island with a variety of watersport activities in the Pamlico Sound.
Please note that the daily effects of winds, waves, tides and storms have contributed to coastal erosion impacts at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, particularly adjacent to the villages of Rodanthe and Buxton. The effects of erosion in these towns result in dynamic and unpredictable changes to the dune line, which may unexpectedly affect beach access. Guests may need to utilize alternate beach access points during their stay.

Booking the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental home:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a budget.
- Remodeled
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
