Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hatteras vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning and picking the best Hatteras rental home:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly home 5 lots from the beach with crow's nest, ocean view & fast WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
