Rental home tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing your Hatteras vacation home:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Classic home with sound & marsh views, hot tub, decks - near beaches\/lighthouse has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
