Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best rental:

  • To start, have your family choose date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Waterfront Home w\/ Private Hot Tub, Free WiFi, AC, Kayaks, & Washer\/Dryer has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
