How to get the best rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Canalfront 4 bedroom pet friendly avon home has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
