Build a charming resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally-decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, and there are plenty of appliances, counter space, and cabinet storage in the full kitchen. The living room is a great place to savor a movie nighttime with friends and family after a fun day on the beach. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Tips for getting the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in Buxton. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Bright Buxton townhouse with pool access, fast WiFi, AC, W\/D & ocean views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
