Finding the best Avon vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the right Hatteras rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. 2-story beach cottage with private patio, screened balcony, AC, & W/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
