Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Avon. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront Condo with Outdoor Pool, Year-Round Tennis Courts, & Amazing Sunsets has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
