If you are looking for pristine, unspoiled beaches less than a min.'s walk away and the sound of waves crashing into the seashore lulling you to sleep, look no further than Shells Yeah!
Located oceanside in Avon on Hatteras Island, at Shells Yeah! you will feel like you have escaped the rest of the world, even though every modern luxury you could need is at your fingertips.
You are mins. away from community pool and pickleball and tennis court access, eateries, shopping, outdoor activities, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, 4x4 beach driving, a fishing pier, charter fishing boats, and a fast drive to the complimentary ferry that will whisk you off to Ocracoke Island for a day trip to discover the cozy island and search for Blackbeard's lost treasure. The only full size grocery store on Hatteras Island, Food Lion, is conveniently only 2 miles away.
Shells Yeah! is less than a min.'s stroll from a beach access that will beckon you to Avon's widest, white sandy, uncrowded beach. There are no busy streets to cross on your 45 second journey down our peaceful street aptly named Ocean Lane. A second beach access is just another ½ block down. With no public beach parking close by, you are sharing the beach only with those within walking distance.
If you are unfamiliar with Hatteras Island, you will appreciate our 72 miles of unspoiled beachfront, consistently voted one of the top 10 best beaches in the US. Because of our proximity to the Gulf Stream (which touches the tip of Cape Hatteras) and the island’s unique shape, we savor the most temperate year round climate north of Florida and our ocean temperatures are up to 10 degrees warmer than northern OBX villages like Nags Head and Duck. The island’s remote location and low light pollution also mean that you can wish upon plenty of stars and even the Milky Way at nighttime. Shooting stars are a common sight!
NEW IN 2023: Need a break from the ocean? Now Shells Yeah! guests are treated to community Olympic-sized pool, kiddie pool, and tennis court access just a few mins.' drive away! The pools are open from mid May to September 30th and the tennis courts are open year round. You can work on your tan poolside now in addition to oceanside, and take a break from the waves and swim in calmer waters!
Our 1/4 acre property is among the biggest oceanside tons in Avon, and Shells Yeah! was freshly sided in a classic beachy yellow. There is plenty of space to park and 2 entrances to the home. We have a charcoal grille for outdoor cooking with a picnic bench next to the grille where you can sit and devour your grilled masterpieces, a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water for rinsing off, and a fish cleaning table with a water line in case you get lucky and catch the big one.
We have a Stair Tamer cargo lift, so you can save your stamina for long walks on the beach and send your groceries and bags up to the home level at the push of a button.
Shells Yeah! has 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms and sleeps 10 visitors with true comfort (no couch beds or futons here). There are ceiling fans in every room to capture the ocean breeze. We have flat screen intelligent TVs (no cable service) in the living room and bedrooms for the occasional rainy day. Our decorations are one of a kind, and you are encouraged to have your picture taken with our mascot Captain Shells Yeah! and his trusty sidekick Perch.
The living room is designed with your comfort in mind. We have 3 comfortable couches so that everybody can spread out. We have a flat screen intelligent tv, a skylight for additional sunshine, and a modest glimpse of the Pamlico Sound.
The open concept continues into the kitchen. We installed brand new stainless steel appliances including a side by side refrigerator, electric flat top stove, microwave oven, and dishwasher. There are plenty of dishes, silverware, and silverware should you wish to stay in for meals instead of partaking in the island's creative eateries. We have both a standard coffee maker and a Keurig, for those who enjoy their coffee at the push of a button.
In the dining room you will find an oak table with seating for six and sliding glass doors that open onto a roomy deck with constructed in benches and adirondack chairs for seating or sunbathing. If it's a full home, there is additional seating at the picnic table on our 22x10 screened porch located just off the dining room, which also includes a double swing from Nags Head Hammocks, two sturdy gliders, two side tables for snacks and beverages, and additional seating.
The master bedroom includes a master bathroom with shower and plenty of closet and dresser space for the true fashionistas. We selected a top of the line king bed for your ultimate comfort, and a chair will provide seating while you slip on your flip flops. Topping it off is a flat screen intelligent tv.
The second bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, seating, dresser space, and a flat screen intelligent tv.
The third bedroom is furnished with a full size bed, dresser space, and a flat screen intelligent tv.
The fourth bedroom is furnished with a full size bed, bunk bed, closet and dresser space, and a flat screen intelligent tv.
The high efficiency washer and dryer are conveniently inside the home, and centrally located so everybody has equal access to cleaning their beach attire.
Rounding it out is the second bathroom with a bathtub/shower combo.
Finest of all, your beds will be made and ready for you when you arrive, at no additional cost! No need to fill your car with linens for 10 people or pay sky high prices to rent sheets for a week. You can head right to the beach instead of wasting an hour making six beds after your long drive. Just bring your bath and beach towels, and a comforter if you want one! Towels and comforters are also available for rent.
For those who cannot escape from reality altogether, we have wireless high speed Internet.
And did we mention, for an additional fee, that your 4 legged kids can join you on vacation? Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcome, and will have as much fun as you exploring the beach. We also have a super convenient fenced in dog area so your furry friends don't have to worry about sand spurs or hot pavement.
Weekly units are available from May through mid October with a Sunday check-in so you can avoid the Friday-Saturday traffic. We are owner managed, so you can have the comfort of knowing that you are dealing with someone who knows you by name, not by property number.

- Summertime is high season in Avon. To book the most suitable rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance.
