Dune Haus is an oceanfront Outer Banks heaven with private beach access. Available for the first time as a vacation rental summer 2022! Dune Haus is a beautiful & modern bungalow located in the eclectic solitude of Salvo with Cape Hatteras National Seashore as our backyard. This bungalow is a one of a kind place designed for the most discerning guest to savor all the adventures that the Outer Banks has to offer.

Please be respectful of neighbors. Salvo is a cozy little beach community and we appreciate our amazing neighbors and care deeply about hosting only those who can agree to home rules. Including but not limited to, NO loud music, events or generally disturbing behavior.

CHECK IN/OUT
Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 10am. While we try to go above and beyond to accommodate our guests, we cannot offer late departures. This is to allow our cleaning crew ample time to make sure your %listing_type% is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before and after your stay. If you check out late, there will be a minimum $150 fee. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this. Early check-ins will be dependent upon whether there is a guest preceding your stay and any scheduled maintenance.

We have 4 bedrooms.
Main level Bedroom 1 has a king bed and private bathroom with enormous bespoke shower (2 showerheads), and private balcony.
Lower level Bedroom 1 has a king bed with a private full bath and french doors to lower level deck.
Lower bedroom 2 has two twin beds.
Lower bedroom 3 has two bunk beds (4 beds).
All but 3 of the beds are brand new memory foam.
Each bedroom has its own 32” roku tv

WATER SPORTS
Salvo is one of the top kiteboarding and surfing destinations in the world! Within a one mins. drive, rent equipment at Real Watersports or Hatteras Watersports and play on the Sound side of Salvo. We appreciate to rent jet skis, paddle board, kayak. We hope to try kitesurfing soon! You will be amazed!

SAND
Please use the outdoor shower (hot & cold), or the cold foot shower to rinse of sand before entering our home or entering the hot tub.

ENTERTAINMENT
In addition to the family room, many deck spaces, hot tub, fenced in yard, you'll find a high speed WIFI mesh network, 55" Roku TV in main living, 32” Roku TV's in all 4 bedrooms. All TVs use Roku remote as main remote. Log into your paid services and don’t forget to logout upon checkout.

GAS FIREPLACE
NOT IN USE DURING SPRING/SUMMER MONTHS (May - August).
There is a switch to the left side of the fireplace (stone nearest window). This will turn fireplace on/off. Please only run when sitting around the fire in the family room. The fireplace will generate a lot of heat. Guests may use the indoor gas fireplace if they certify that they will do so safely and will be responsible for any damage due to its use or misuse. Again, this will only be available during non-spring/summer months.

OUTDOOR FIRE PIT
If you plan to use the outdoor firepit, please do so with care and caution. Keep logs within stone pit and do not fill wood above the stones. No upsized fires are allowed and fires outside of the firepit are stringently prohibited.

IN THE YARD
We have a fenced in space with gate that leads to the dunes and beach access. There is a firepit, game area, swinging chairs, outdoor shower, and closet for our beach accessories.

BEACH ACCESSORIES
We provide a beach cart to help carry belongings across dunes to beach/ocean. Please ensure you put our beach cart back in the garage closet when you are done with it. If it’s lost or stolen you will be responsible for replacement. We also provide beach chairs and some toys.

HEAT / AC
Guests, please do not turn A/C lower than 72 or Heat higher than 70. This can cause Heat pump type systems to freeze up. There are two thermostats, one upstairs and one downstairs. To operate the thermostats, please drag either the cold or hot circle up/down.
Note: with the wall of windows, in the summer months, the morning sun will warm the family room so that the upper thermostat may not keep up. Setting it lower will not make a difference. If it is a problem for you, you may shut all blinds, shut the sunroom door, and turn down the lower level thermostat to 72. We appreciate the sunlight and adore to promote the view and warmth, so you will find all blinds up when you arrive.

WILDLIFE & PESTS
The Outer Banks is known for its variety of birds. Given the climate, you should expect to see insects like beetles and waterbugs/palmeto bugs. We have monthly PEST control and do our best to mitigate the occurrences.

About the Area

Located in Salvo, this cottage is on the beach. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Outer Banks Beaches and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Rodanthe Pier and Ocean Air Sports are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

When to visit Salvo & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.   • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or applied to your contract.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
