Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hatteras. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Lovely home with private pool, decks, amazing ocean view, & W/D has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
