Strategies to get the optimal Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the perfect rental:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. WV26 Heart of Hatteras by First Flight Rentals has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. message the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
