Tips to get the best Hatteras rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly, waterfront home w/sound access, patio & WiFi - walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Hatteras destination you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
