How to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Waves. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking a perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly, oceanfront home in the dunes with observation deck & WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
