Tips for getting the best Avon vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are high season in Avon. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and picking your Hatteras rental:
- Start by having your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Avon property with heated pool and elevator! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
