How to book the best Hatteras rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your Hatteras rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking your Hatteras rental home:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront condo with pool, central AC, amazing views, & stylish decor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
