Finding the best Hatteras rental home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To book the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Margaritaville Cabana - perfect for 2 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you crave, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
