Live like a local in this cavernous and serene home. Located off the beaten path and tucked in among the oaks in Old Avon Village. Safe Harbor is a really peaceful place to relax. This is a handsome, local artist owned home constructed on a ridge within an oak knoll. The yard offers space to run and play, stretch out your water sport equipment and to watch wildlife pass through. The screened porch is a ideal place for morning coffee or yoga and listening to the birds. Filled with original artwork and an eclectic mix of antique, vintage, handmade and new furnishings, our home is not your typical beach rental.
The owner has a private pottery studio with separate entry on the ground floor (kilns in separate building).
Community pool pass in summer.
Owners live on adjacent property and work in the garage studio.
*Please note: our cat lives in this home with us in the winter.

Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting and booking the bestrental home:
- Select your dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Just Listed! 4 BR family friendly Avon home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
