Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dreamy beach house with shared pool, central ac, private w\/d, deck, & WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
