Getting the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in Avon. Reserve your Hatteras vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Soundside Cottage Minutes to the Beach w\/ Books, Games, Grill, Screened Porch has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
