You may dispose of your bags in the dumpster located at the front of the property. Please do not leave your pets for long periods of time on the porch or decks or leave them unattended in the cabana for long periods of time as well.

Hatteras Village is located across Pamlico Sound 25 miles from the North Carolina mainland to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east of our Cabana which accepts you to appreciate the remoteness of Hatteras Island and Hatteras Village. The National Park Service maintains the adjacent beach which is part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This is the only beach in the Carolinas where you can savor the warmth and romance of a fire on the beach. Sound side kayaking is conveniently accessible with a county put-in at the Hatteras Island Ocean Center less than a quarter mile down the road. Or enjoy ocean kayaking just a few steps away past the sand dune. Free downloadable NPS Beach Fire Permit is available online from the National Park Service website.

Tricks and tips for getting the best Hatteras vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking the right Hatteras vacation home:

  • Select dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Cabana—Hatteras National Seashore has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
