Finding the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Buxton. Book your Hatteras vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sea Star- Ocean Views- Steps to Beach- Community Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
