Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
