ALOHA HATTERAS fronts Askins Creek, overlooks Pamlico Sound, is a 5 min. walk to the beach and 5 min drive to Avon Pier. It is also 3min drive to the island's best grocery shopping...key to keeping the chef happy! The kitchen-greatroom layout with vistas and a cathedral ceiling is the ideal beach home configuration.

Unrestricted, expansive vistas of/over water include fish jumping, birds feeding, colorful Pamlico Sound windsurfers/kiteboarders silently drifting by in the distance, and impressive sunsets--are all narrated to the sound of nature.
Come savor this astounding view and it's relative isolation (...not sitting on your deck staring at your neighbor like a lot of the 'competition'...even a lot of the 'oceanfront' cottages only have a view of the back of dunes...). Alohas Hatteras is ideally located: the beach is a 5-7 min. walk away, the shared pool a short drive away, and the amazing sunset vistas of Askin’s Creek/Pamlico Sound from the decks and great room.
Feel an intimate relationship with the beauty and magic of Hatteras Island, the gem of the outerbanks.

Aloha is Hawaiian for welcome, farewell and appreciate. The owners, whose kids grew up in the Hawaiian Islands when stationed there with the military, want you to fall in appreciate with Hatteras Island/the ‘other islands’ of the outer banks. ALOHA HATTERAS is your passport and its deck is really one of those “close your eyes and think of a favorite, relaxing place” kind of settings The vista is dynamic with no neighbors in your field of view appreciate: the Great Egret or Blue Herons feed to the sound of song bird music and fish jumping in the morning, striking sunsets over Pamlico sound in the evening, and undiminished stars from the deck’s 6 person hot tub at nighttime. Forget your car and walk to the beach for that early morning walk, the midday sun, the evening tides. Windsurfers, kite boarders, and families with modest kids will adore the privacy of the readily available, protected, shallow sandy beaches of Pamlico Sound.. Fishermen also have access to Hatteras Island's only fishing pier; (they also rent equipment).

Bedrooms on the lower floor with 2 baths: 2 of the bedrooms have fantastic vistas of unrestricted expansive vistas of Askin’s Creek and Pamlico Sound. (We do not provide linens and towels. However, you can rent them close by.)

Kitchen: well equipped with pots/pans, dishes, glasses, cups, knives/cutting boards, mixer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and many more.

The ground level has ample concrete parking, outside shower, charcoal grille, and carport for rainy days.

The 1st floor has four bedrooms and two baths with shaded deck and fantastic vistas off two bedrooms.

Living room: ALOHA HATTERAS’ enormous upper level great room with tall cathedral ceilings has unrestricted expansive vistas of Askin’s Creek and Pamlico Sound, tons of glass, screened in porch--'postcard' vistas of Hatteras Island's peaceful side.

SPECIAL NOTES
*the 30+ yr old home was freshly ‘refreshed’ but retains many original features that the photos seek to accurately display.
*Finest grocery shopping on the island is 3min away; key for cooking in [we have found that even the best planned dinner involves at least two trips to the Food Lion...big difference between being around the corner vs 25min away in Hatteras, Rodanthe/Salvo]
*also a Dollar Tree 3min away for inexpensive sundries
*Aloha Hatteras is MANAGED by the OWNERs.
*Sorry - but No Smoking
*Although SOME have launched a kayak into Askins Creek from the property; MANY have found the shore too soft and muddy to do so.

The Outer Banks and the National Seashore offer a fascinating combination of natural and cultural resources, and provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities:

* The uncrowded, pristine beach (voted best on the coast) is ideal for families.
* Want to discover? Take the complimentary ferry from Hatteras Village to Ocracoke Island, home of the infamous pirate, Blackbeard; also a modest arts community
*Visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and Museum and the Dunes at Jockey's Ridge State Park (50 miles north).
* Fisherman can choose surfcasting, inlet fishing, ocean fishing at Avon Pier, sound fishing (think giant salt water lake), or sport fishing offshore for flounder, drum, blues, mackerel, tuna, and more; although Askins Creek looks inviting, its fishing is not.
* Discover multiple intimate eateries with the Outer Banks own brand of beach hospitality rarely seen in vacation destinations. Fresh seafood; Avon, alone, has two stores (check out Surf's up)
* Surfers can take advantage of the location central to the Outer Banks hottest surf spots including Hatteras Light House, S-Turns, and Frisco Pier.
* Windsurfers, Kiteboarders, and Kayakers can access the warm, shallow waters of Pamlico Sound. World famed Canadian Hole Haul-over day use area and Kite Point are less than a half mile south.
*Avon has a bicycle path--great for exploring, for simple trips to the stores, or outings to the beach, pier or pool; bring your bicycles or rent—delivery usually available .

Tricks and tips to get the very best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in Avon. Book your rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking the perfect Hatteras rental home:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Waterfront sunsets; 5min walk to beach; secluded; quiet; spacious Great Room has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
