Just outside awaits a sizable pool with plenty of decking and seating. Or you can relax in the hot tub overlooking the lake. Yet another door takes you into the sauna, ideal for a bit of self-care. Another door leads to the theater room with tiered leather seating for up to 20 guests, plus a 12-foot silver screen, an HD projector hooked into the DirecTV or Blu-Ray DVD system. How to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • First, have your group commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Beach home overlooking the ocean with pool, hot tub, sauna, & balcony has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Hatteras beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
