Every vacation destination has its own unique draw to potential visitors, whether it's a national monument, a fantastic shopping or dining scene, or an exotic locale that's meant for total relaxation. Many newcomers to the Outer Banks are surprised to learn that this destination has all of these attributes and more, and it can be hard to narrow down the overflowing list of "must-sees" or "must-dos" that have to be squeezed into a 1-2 week OBX vacation.
There is nothing like a bird’s eye view of Hatteras Island. The folks at Burrus Flying Service will make it happen for you. They take the business serious and offer three different tours from which to choose.
The South Tour has you flying over Hatteras Inlet moving toward Ocracoke Village. You view the wild ponies, Ocracoke Lighthouse and inlet. Historic Portsmouth Island also is visible on this tour as well as views of the gorgeous Pamlico Sound.
The Cape Tour soars over Pamlico Sound towards the Canadian Hole where the windsurfers ride. You will move toward Avon and cruise over the great Atlantic past the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Cross over the infamous Diamond Shoals and travel to Hatteras Village. Call for hours.
Tour three, the North Tour, takes you over Pamlico Sound Reef towards Waves and Salvo. There are shipwrecks to see, ocean galore, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Diamond Shoals and Buxton Woods.
On most flights you will see schools of fish, and other sealife such as sharks, sea turtles, dolphins and whales.
Tour prices depend on the tour and the amount of people. Each tour needs a 2-person minimum. Tours are weather permitting, of course!
